Title: Gunpowder Plot Conspirators, 1605

Description: Eight of the thirteen conspirators involved in the Gunpowder Plot, where Catholic rebels thought to kill James I (June 19, 1556-March 27, 1625), blow up the House of Lords in the British Parliament on November 5, 1605, seize power and install a Catholic monarch on the English throne. They are, from left to right, Thomas Bates (d. January 30, 1606), Robert Wintour (Winter; 1568-January 30, 1606), Christopher Wright (Kit Wright; c.1570-November 8, 1605), John Wright (Jack Wright; January 1568-November 8, 1605), Thomas Percy (c. 1560-November 8, 1605), Guy Fawkes (Guido Fawkes; April 13, 1570-January 31, 1606), the leader of the plot Robert Catesby (c. 1572-November 8, 1605), and Thomas Wintour (Winter; c. 1572-January 31, 1606). The plot was discovered on its eve and the conspirators fled, some killed by the pursuing sheriff and his men. Eight of the conspirators were later horribly executed, hanged and then drawn and quartered. Guy Fawkes Day is celebrated in England on or about November 5, where straw or dummy effigies of the conspirators are burned in huge bonfires.
