Title: CIA Headquarters, Langley, Virginia

Description: CIA (Central Intelligence Agency) headquarters in Langley, Virginia. The CIA, established in 1947, evolved from the U.S. Office of Strategic Services (OSS), the U.S. Intelligence Service during WWII. The CIA operates outside the Western Hemisphere, where the FBI (U.S. Federal Bureau of Investigation) controls all domestic intelligence. The CIA's vast network of agents span the world and conduct covert intelligence operations, as well as sabotage. It is mandated to interfere with the functions of any nation deemed an enemy of the U.S., particularly communist nations, as well as foreign subversive elements, including terrorist organizations and networks such as Al Qaeda and Afghanistan's Taliban. The CIA works in cooperation with all other U.S. intelligence agencies as well as those of friendly or allied foreign nations. The CIA employs more than 20,000 people and has a classified budget, said to be almost unlimited. The CIA has field agents worldwide, but largely depends on intelligence from foreign nationals it secretly employs, particularly those in high positions in foreign governments. As of this 2011 writing, Leon Panetta (Leon Edward Panetta; June 28, 1938- ) is its director.
