Title: Enola Gay, August, 1945

Description: The remains of a Japanese war plant in Nagasaki, after a second atom bomb was dropped on the city on August 9, 1945, the first bomb dropped at Hiroshima on August 6, 1945 by the B-29 Enola Gay flown by Colonel Paul Tibbets (1915-2007); the two atom bomb attacks brought about Japan's surrender on September 2, 1945, ending World War II, and, it is believed that both bombs (the second atom bomb convincing diehard Japanese leaders, including Emperor Hirohito that the U.S. had the ability to continue dropping atom bombs, which it did not then have) saved more than one million Allied lives that would have been otherwise spent in invading and subduing mainland Japan;
