Description: Battleship USS California (BB-44), anchored at the southernmost berth of Battleship Row at Pearl Harbor, after being struck by a bomb at 0805, which exploded below decks and ignited antiaircraft ammunition, and a second bomb that ruptured her bow plates, is abandoned by her crew as she settles into the mud next to Ford Island (only her superstructure remained above water); of her 1,026 crew members, 100 were killed and sixty-two wounded; machinist Mate First Class Robert R. Scott, remained in a flooding compartment where he continued to provide compressed air to the ship's battling guns until he drowned; he was posthumously awarded the Congressional Medal of Honor;
