Title: Arizona, December, 1941

Description: The bridge tower of the sunken battleship Arizona (BB-39) leans forward, while its forward gun mounts barely protrude above the water's edge, center, as the minesweeper USS Tern (AM-31) searches for survivors; the Arizona would remain in this spot as a war memorial and a constant reminder of the treacherous sneak attack against Pearl Harbor, Oahu, Hawaii, made by the Japanese in their undeclared war against the U.S., designated a national shrine on May 30, 1962 in the administration of President John F. Kennedy, and it was designated a historical landmark on May 5, 1989; at this writing, oil leaks from the hull of the Arizona still rise to the surface (about a quart a day), its survivors claiming that the oil flow will cease when the last survivor dies; still on board her as an unforgettable war grave are the remains of 1,177 members of its complement of 1,400 courageous men, including Rear Admiral Isaac Campbell Kidd, commander of Battleship Division One, killed on the bridge when the ship blew up (his Naval Academy ring was later found fused to the bulkhead); he was posthumously awarded the Congressional Medal of Honor;
