Title: Jews Captured, Warsaw, Poland, April 1943

Description: Jews, chiefly women and children, shown with their hands raised at the point of Nazi guns, had been hiding during the Warsaw Ghetto uprising; they were rooted from their hidden areas, rounded up and forced to march in columns toward trains that would take them to Treblinka and other death camps under orders from SS General Jurgen Stroop (1895-1952), who took command of SS forces combating Jewish resistance groups in the Warsaw Ghetto Uprising; the ruthless Stroop, a former sergeant in World War I, ordered his Nazi troops to destroy the entire Ghetto; the area was flattened within a short time with the personal sanction of Adolf Hitler, and more than 50,000 of the Jews remaining in the Ghetto killed, some survivors executed on the spot or others taken to death camps for speedy extermination; Stroop, an escaped war criminal, would be hunted down, tried, convicted of war crimes and executed in Warsaw on March 6, 1952;
