Title: Wedding of Louis XII and Mary Tudor

Description: A drawing by French artist Pierre Gringoire (1475-1538) which depicts the wedding of Louis XII (1462-1515) (Left) and Mary Tudor (1496-1533) (Right). Mary was the younger sister of Henry VIII (1491-1547); she became Queen consort to France with her marriage to Louis XII (1462-1515); when Louis died, King Henry VIII sent Charles Brandon (1st Duke of Suffolk; 1484-1545) to bring his sister back to England, but the couple, without Henry's consent or knowledge, secretly married in France before returning to England—Mary had been unhappily married to Louis and Brandon had always been the love of her life—and when Henry learned of that clandestine marriage, he considered imprisoning or executing Brandon on charges of treason (as urged by the Privy Council), but his deep affection for his sister and Brandon allowed the couple to get off with a fine; they were officially married on May 13, 1515 at Greenwich Palace;
