Title: Crew members of German submarine U-58

Description: Crew members of German submarine U-58 scramble on deck to surrender to U.S. warships in the North Atlantic, November 17, 1917; the U-boat's conning tower was sighted by Coxswain Daniel David Loomis on board the USS Fanning (DD-37) and its commander, Lt. William O. Henry, ordered a depth-charge attack that damaged the bow planes of the submarine, forcing it to the surface where its crew members quickly surrendered to the Fanning and its sister destroyer, the USS Nicholson (DD-52), becoming the first German U-boat to be captured in World War I; Loomis and Henry each received the Navy Cross for their actions;
