Title: Alfred Hitchcock and Jay Robert Nash, 1969

Description: Alfred Hitchcock (Alfred Joseph Hitchcock; August 13, 1899-April 29, 1980), British film director, left, shown in 1969 at the Ambassador East Hotel, Chicago, Illinois, with author, editor and publisher Jay Robert Nash (November 26, 1937- ). This was the first of several meetings between the two, and in those several meetings, this foremost director of suspense films admitted to Nash that he did not adventurously leave the confines of his comfortable, well-secured homes. He traveled the world through his films and via studio sets and sound stages, rarely making personal trips, except when necessary for on-location productions, and then exclusively by train or ocean liner. The man who terrified millions through his movies possessed myriad, deep-rooted apprehensions he detailed for Nash, including fears of flying, home intrusion, heights, police, physicians and medical operations, edged weapons or sharp instruments, glamorous women, and, most of all, unstable actors with whom he had to work.
