Title: Arthur Conan Doyle

Description: Arthur Conan Doyle (Sir Arthur Conan Doyle; 1859-1930), British novelist, historian, poet, short story writer, who is best known for creating the indomitable and indefatigable fictional detective Sherlock Holmes. Doyle regarded his creation as a nuisance and distraction and even killed off Holmes in an 1893 story in order to "dedicate my time to more important matters." However, loud public outcry forced Doyle to later resurrect Holmes in "The Hound of the Baskervilles."
