Title: Soup kitchen

Description: The unemployed waiting for food at a soup kitchen; such breadlines were commonplace during the Great Depression, where there were less trucks carrying produce and products, where no smoke came from most chimneys; where shops were vacant, plants closed and jobs seemingly impossible to find, where the streets were populated mostly by beggars and panhandlers pleading for money; unlike the mid-1940s, where the streets of America bustled with people during the War boom, there was in the early 1930s a look of emptiness throughout the U.S., confirming the old line that "poverty stayed at home," but the country kept its chin up, as reflected in the lyrics of a contemporary song: "Poverty may come to me, that's true; but what care I, 'cause I'll get by, as long as I, have you..." (I'll Get By, 1928, music by Fred Ahlert, lyrics by Roy Turk); breadlines; Depression; homeless;
