Description: Albert B. Fall (Albert Bacon Fall; 1861-1944), left, American politician and U.S. Secretary of the Interior (1921-1923, Harding administration); and E. L. Doheny (Edward Lawrence Doheny; 1856-1935), right, American wildcatter and oil tycoon, who, in 1892, drilled the first oil well in the Los Angeles area, setting off the California oil boom and who was accused of bribing Fall with $100,000 to secure drilling rights without competitive bidding to the Elk Hills Naval Petroleum Reserve in California; Doheny was tried twice and acquitted, but Fall was convicted of taking the bribe and sent to prison (serving one year); Doheny was the role model for the protagonist in Upton Sinclair's novel, Oil!, and the same character in the 2007 film There Will Be Blood, based on the Sinclair book; bribery;
