Description: Andrew Hull Foote (September 12, 1806-June 26, 1863), American military officer and a Union admiral during the Civil War; Foote, as a Flag Officer, commanded the Federal Mississippi River Squadron that effectively led the gunboat flotilla that bombarded and helped to capture Forts Henry and Donelson and Island No. 10; for these actions he received the Thanks of Congress and was promoted to the rank of rear admiral, but, while en route to take command of the Union South Atlantic Blockading Squadron he died from a wound received at Fort Donelson;
