Title: Foreign Correspondent (1940)

Description: Scene with Charles Wagenheim (February 29, 1896-March 6, 1979), center, with gun drawn, fleeing after committing the assassination of a Dutch diplomat (sprawlied on stairs center left) in the 1940 film Foreign Correspondent, directed by Alfred Hitchcock (August 13, 1899-April 29, 1980). One of the best spy-suspense films directed by Hitchcock, the film deals with a crime reporter, Joel McCrea (November 5, 1905-October 20, 1990), turned foreign correspondent in Europe, where the Dutch diplomat is ostensibly assassinated, but is really kidnapped, and his search for the missing statesman, while chased and attacked by Nazi spies. The scene shown here was shot on a huge set with hundreds of spectators during a rainstorm, amidst moving cars and trolleys, so realistsically portrayed that viewers truly believed it was filmed on a city street in the Netherlands.
